What is an Operating Score?

What is my operating score, how is it calculated, and how can I improve it?

Updated over a week ago

Admin users of our business product will notice that your Manager Dashboard features a topline metric called Operating Score.

The Operating Score offers a real-time pulse on your organization's performance, with a focus on training, policy understanding, and engagement, using an easy traffic light colour-coded visual representation.

This helps managers & admins to drive operational excellence across an organisation.

Depending on your access level, you can select the Operating Score for your entire organisation or specific venues/locations.

Understanding Your Operating Score

The score is calculated across a number of measures in the application and can be used to quickly understand if a particular area of the business needs attention.

  • 60% of the score is made up of training compliance and scores

The more courses are passed and the higher your team scores in each course, the more positively your operating score is impacted.

  • 20% of the score is calculated on how many custom courses are published to your employees

Your team's understanding of specific policies and procedures at your business is critical to a successful operation.

  • 10% is calculated from profile completion

Ensuring you upload company logos, invite your team, and assign admins to manage each location all increase the operating score.

  • 10% can be gained through assigning ANANAS Hospitality Certificate content to your team

What is a Good Operating Score?

You will notice the colour coding on the operating score goes from red through amber to green.

A score in the green (from 70-100) is considered optimal and indicative that employees understand what is expected of them and that ANANAS is optimised and providing the best possible value to your business.

How do I Improve my Operating Score?

There are a number of steps you can take to improve your score (and business performance).

  1. As the bulk of the score is calculated from assigned courses, the best way to increase your score is to ensure that employees are completing courses assigned to them and encouraging/rewarding those who excel with high scores.

    • If you have high rates of non-compliance on courses, you may want to consider if you are overloading your team.

  2. 20% of the score is weighted by custom courses. Creating content specific to your business ensures employees have the knowledge needed to succeed and will increase your Operating Score. Some example courses include Venue Induction, Workplace Health and Safety, Food and Beverage Menus and more.

  3. Add company logos to carry your brand message to employees.

  4. Invite your team and check in to ensure they have accepted and logged it. We can't stress this enough: ANANAS has little value for your business if employees can not access it.

  5. Assign at least one admin to each location. Your department heads (bar manager, FOH supervisor etc.) are responsible for the day-to-day management of employees in the venue, so should they be on ANANAS. Assigning an admin to each of your team's locations is one method to ensure your company is always running at its best.

  6. Assign courses from ANANAS Hospitality Certificates to your team. These are a solid base knowledge for any hospitality worker and can be varied depending on the style or focus of your venue.

Remember that as you add new employees or additional learning, your score may reduce if new courses are not completed within the assigned time.
